You are mistaken. The translators of the Middle Ages were not mistaken.
They translated the name correctly as LORD, and when used as the chief
title, they correctly transliterated it as JEHOVAH.

A man's boss is his LORD. The chief of all bosses is THE BOSS:

The LORD ...
The BOSS ...

This is the exact semantic reasoning of the Middle-Age translators and
it is correct. They read, wrote, and spoke ancient Greek, Hebrew, and
Latin *fluently.* Those translator were able to carry out conversations
in the ancient languages. You butterfinger a Strong's Concordance and
think yourself smarter than they.
