In ancient Hebrew the letter was JOT, not YOD. The ancient Hebrew alphabet is the same as the ancient proto-Greek and Phoenician alphabets. They were not merely similar. They were the *same* alphabet. Modern Hebrew says, "aleph, bet, gimmel ..." Ancient Hebrew the letters were, "alpha beta gamma ..." just as in Greek. The vowels of the modern Hebrew are innovations. This is not to say that the vowel points are incorrect. The vowel points ARE correct in the Textus Receptus corpus. The modern interpretation of them is flawed by myths and pet theories of the Yahwist Roman school. The tetragrammaton is JHWH, not YHWH. The names YAHWEH and YEHOVAH and YASHUA are modern inventions and were unknown to the ancient Israelites at Sinai and Canaan. They all understood the names JEHOVAH and JESUS with a clear "J" sound.
