These religious ones generally act as if God is keeping a list of every 
deed (like Santa Claus) and they must balance the bad deeds out with 
good deeds (dualism).

The only list God is keeping is the words we confess with our mouths, 
and whether those words list us in the book of life. Do we believe that 
Jesus is the Son of God who took away the sins of the world? Or do we 
believe that living according to some rule book will take away our sins? 
The two are mutually exclusive.

There's a dichotomy: Either you are one of God's chosen people, or one 
of Santa's chosen people. ;)

I thank God through Jesus Christ that I am not one of Santa's chosen 
people. I can only imagine how big my naughty list would be. It would 
look like Wikipedia.
