"And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his
birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink
neither wine nor strong drink; and he _shall be filled with the Holy
Ghost, even from his mother’s womb_ ..." (Luke 1:14-15)

"... the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy
Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou
among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb." (Luke 1:41-42)

"... And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying,
What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with
him." (Luke 1)

The scripture plainly says that John the Baptist was filled with the
Spirit even before he was born. John was neither conceived in iniquity
nor was he indwelt with the devil, as we quote Robert saying.

Jesus had this to say about John:

(Matt 11:11) "Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women
there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he
that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."

John the Baptist was born of the Spirit before he was even born from his
mother's womb. There was no Satan or evil dwelling in him. Babies are
innocent before God:

(Romans 9:11-15) "(For the children being not yet born, neither having
done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election
might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) As it is written,
Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is
there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I
will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on
whom I will have compassion."

Without God's mercy and the direct intervention of his Spirit a man will
continue to stumble in darkness, like Esau. Whether or not you are a
vile sinner or a righteous seeker of Jesus has nothing to do with you.
It is all the power of God. Those whom God anoints, walk in the path of
righteousness. Those Whom he doesn't anoint, stay blind, as with Esau.
It has nothing to do with the will of man, but rather the will of God.
The Christian doctrine of free will to choose God is as false as the
idea that all children are born indwelt with Satan or the claim that no
one is born with the Holy Spirit in them. These are matters of God's
choice, not of some doctrinal tradition.
