Since David was writing the Psalms, how did the Lord instruct David? Since there was no bible, and no high and holy scriptorians to read it, how could they be instructed in the good news? How could they have faith, when the bible hadn't yet been written? They neither had nor needed either a church or a bible, yet they are the blessed of the Lord. If you had told those patriarchs, 'sola scriptura' what would that have sounded like to them? The pagan nations around them had piles of holy writ. The pagan nations around them had piles of sacred scriptures from the prophets of their pagan gods. So do a thought exercise, and go back to the time of Moses, and imagine yourself in the camp with Aaron, bellowing about fire and brimstone and 'sola scriptura.' Imagine what the reaction of the Israelites might have been to such preaching. How would a true Israelite react today, seeing we no longer have leper colonies outside the camp?
