It was not written as a literal history. It is divine poetry with deeper meaning. The book of Genesis is telling the same story that the Book of Revelation conveys. Both books relate the same information using different symbols. Ergo, Genesis is not a history. It is prophecy. When Jesus came he taught almost completely in parables. For instance, the parable of the rich man and Lazarus is often used to prop up doctrines about the afterlife, when that is not the purpose of the parable. It's a story Jesus told to symbolize something. He was not giving a lecture on the nature of the afterlife. In the same way the story of Noah and the Ark is a prophecy of the salvation of Jesus and his ascendancy to King of Kings. The animals fearing man means the fear of the Lord will fall upon the leaders of nations. Noah being allowed to eat of the clean beasts is a symbol of joining together in authority, of making diverse nations into one kingdom under one ruler, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said that the scriptures of the Old Testament testify of Him. This is what he meant. The whole Old Testament is about Jesus, from Genesis to Malachi. The story of the Garden of Eden is about Jesus and the congregation of the saints. The story of Noah and the ark is about Jesus and the congregation of the saints. The story of Israel coming out of Egypt is about the congregation of the saints. The story of Abraham and Sarah is about the congregation of the saints. "For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an ALLEGORY: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children." Agar, or Hagar, is the Jews. Sarah is the followers of Jesus. "But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband." Try as they could, the Jews could not bring the world to God, because the Jews were not, and never were the seed of promise. Jesus is the promised seed, and all the stars and sands that God promised to Abraham represent those who believe in Jesus. Isaac is us who trust Jesus and lay down our lives at his feet. "Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free." The Apostle Paul makes it plain that the story of Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac is a prophecy and not a history lesson. Christians do not understand the bible, because they are still letting the bondwoman interpret it for them. The story of Adam and Eve is a prophecy of Jesus and the congregation of the saints. Adam represents Jesus and Eve represents the congregation, his body, even the body of Christ. For woman was taken out of man, out of half his ribs, and the two become one flesh (one body). Paul and the Apostles tell us we are joined to the body of Christ. Genesis was telling us about this many centuries before it happened. Christians: stop pretending you know anything and stop butchering the bible. Heed the words of Paul: "From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm." "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." When you debate the meaning of the Old Testament and take the symbols therein literally, you are showing you are not a teacher but have need of a teacher to show you how to properly suckle the milk before you try to chew on meat. The letters of Paul the Apostle are the meat and cooking recipes. Men who seek to elevate and glorify themselves always get the bible terribly wrong. The bible is like a truth serum, that gets them to expose their ignorance with beaming pride in the effort. This is one of the effects of the drug of religion--to expose what is in the minds and hearts of men, while they think they are making themselves look holy.
