I was saved by grace and baptized by the Spirit IN SPITE OF my rigorous and frequent study of the bible and church history. Then the Spirit showed me what God had done. I had been led by the Spirit and by experience to reject ALL religion, and my heart cried out for God to help me understand what I should do. I then understood that there is no salvation in any church or religion, and opened the bible right to Jeremiah 31:31. Many who claim to believe in the bible are liars in notorious and flagrant disobedience to Jeremiah 31:31. There are many of us who have no need of a teacher at all. Some men have been translated into the kingdom after reading scripture. I was reading Jeremiah 31 when it hit me exactly what God was doing. The Spirit told me to stop trying to be righteous and understand what salvation is and from whence it comes. The very bible I was reading testified to me that righteousness does not come from reading or obeying the bible. It comes from hearing the good news and having that imprinted on the heart. Belief on the Son is obedience, the only obedience that God wants. Go read Jeremiah 31. It testifies against the idea that scripture study breeds salvation. If that were true then why did the scriptorian Pharisees and the religious mob of Judea crucify Jesus? They were using their 'bible' as the indictment against him! Most of the people saved by the twelve Apostles were not saved by scripture study. They were saved when the Apostles spoke about Jesus Christ under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit opened their ears to hear and their eyes to see, and that is why they were saved. At the same time, it was not the bible that saved me. It was the Spirit that lead me to read and explained its meaning to me, and opened my eyes and ears to understand it. The Spirit had already come upon me and claimed me prior. It led me to the scripture to help me understand what he was doing with me, not so the words in the book could save me. The bible itself is a book. God's word is the Spirit which gives utterance and understanding of the words uttered. That is the Logos in action. This is what the Christian religion lacks. They have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. They try to imprint the power in the words on paper, in doctrines and credos, while denying the real power which is spirit. When men twist the interpretation of the bible to prop up your their false ideas and confirmation bias then of what value is it if you have a truckload of magic books or a mountain of bibles? A hatchet in the hand of a carpenter is a useful and valuable tool. A hatchet in the hand of a killer is a terrible thing. The bible is like a hatchet or a sword. In the right hands it builds and brings justice. In the wrong hands it is a weapon of evil and destruction. A bible in the hand of an apostle is a mighty medicine. A bible in the hand of a devil is a mighty poison. When a liar is holding a bible and using it to terrorize people into submission to his lunatic ideas, it is not the word of God at all. Then it is just a chain. That sums of the history of the Christian Church system. The word of God is spirit breathed and only discerned by the Spirit. The bible is evidence of his word. But the bible itself is not THE WORD. The Word is a man, and the power that gives him a voice to our ears is the Holy Spirit. Countless men who never had a bible were saved by the testimony of Jesus.
