The hellfire is metaphorical. Do you truly believe that Jesus literally
meant to tear our your eyeball?

The "eyeball" is your leader, or bishop, or source of information, or
whatever your desire focuses upon. If it is corrupt, "tear it out." Cut
out of your life (or your congregation) those things that lead you
astray from the truth, lest you suffer consequences of evil.

Hades is a metaphor for the state of the conscious spirit of man when
it is disembodied and can no longer hide from conscious guilt for sin.
In that state you can't salve your conscience, and it burns like fire
awaiting the judgment. In the spirit realm you can't concoct elaborate
lies to hide the truth about your deeds. Thus it is "hellfire".

God does not literally put people in a literal furnace. That's just
stupid. It would make God worse than Hitler and Stalin. God tries
people in a spiritual fire, that exposes their sin and its
consequences.
